Google search results no longer uses the whole screen

On Sep. 9 2009 Google made some modifications to their site design.

First of all, they changed the font size of the search bar. Fine with me, but they also made another idiotic change that really makes me mad! Before Sep 9, search results were shown on a page with fluid width as shown on the figure below

After the Sep 9 change, Google’s result pages now have a maximum width of somewhat like 1024 pixels. “So what you might think?” I’ll tell you. Some of us can afford screens bigger than the ones found on netbooks or mobile phones and would like Google to use that space. But no, not anymore. Now the search results are squeezed to the left, leaving almost 50% of my screen filled with… nothing!

Come on Google – change it back! As it is now, Google search results pages look like crap
